Beat Antlion with Water magic

Beat Antlion in Final Fantasy Resonance by using Water magic, keeping the party healthy, and preparing recovery for Blind and Slow. Antlion is weak to Water and retaliates against physical attacks, so make nonphysical damage the center of your battle plan.

02

Find the sinkhole between Kol and Felicitas

Antlion is an optional level-20 encounter in the desert sinkhole along the Grandport-area route between the Village of Kol and Felicitas. Crossing the relevant sand on foot triggers the battle. During Chapter 1, travelling by chocobo gives you a way around the encounter.

Choose whether you want to fight before crossing the sand. If your current party is struggling, bypass the sinkhole on a chocobo and return after becoming stronger. You can keep travelling without forcing a victory here.

03

Prepare Water damage and dependable recovery

Build your setup around an available Water magic option, reliable healing, and recovery for Blind and Slow. Sandstorm and Quicksand make status recovery part of the preparation for this fight. Check those tools before committing to the encounter so your damage plan remains manageable when the party needs attention.

Fina's medic role focuses on healing, while Rain's sentinel role protects allies. Those responsibilities are useful foundations when choosing your support characters. Keep healing readily available and choose your offensive actions around Antlion's Water weakness.

Visions provide additional skills and abilities for party customization. Use that flexibility to cover gaps in your current setup, with Water magic and recovery as the priorities for this attempt.

04

Follow this battle plan

  1. Use Water magic as your main attack. It exploits Antlion's weakness while keeping your offense away from the physical attacks that provoke retaliation.
  2. Heal when the party comes under pressure. Keeping allies healthy gives you room to continue the fight without letting another attack take priority over necessary recovery.
  3. Recover from Blind and Slow as they disrupt your plan around Sandstorm and Quicksand. Use the recovery options you prepared so those effects do not dictate the rest of the attempt.
  4. Continue exploiting Water weakness to stagger Antlion. Breaking enemy defenses creates extra turns and an opening for powerful Resonance attacks.
  5. Use the opening for suitable nonphysical damage or essential recovery. Choose the action your party needs at that moment, then return to the Water-and-healing plan if Antlion survives.
05

Adjust the plan if the fight slips away

If your attack routine draws repeated retaliation, shift your offense toward Water magic and other nonphysical damage. Keep physical attacks from becoming your default way to fill a turn. The Water weakness gives you a clear offensive focus without repeatedly inviting the same response.

If you spend the battle trying to catch up on healing, give recovery more attention before pushing for another stagger. Deal with disruptive status effects and stabilize the party before resuming your damage plan. If that still feels beyond your current setup, return after becoming stronger.

06

Rewards and continuing your journey

Defeating Antlion completes the optional encounter and awards normal battle experience and gil. Treat it as a challenge to tackle when your party can handle it. Chocobo travel lets you bypass the sinkhole and return for the fight after becoming stronger.
