Unlock Cloud and build around weaknesses and critical hits
Unlock Cloud at the Sanctum of Cloud in southwestern Kingdom of Grandshelt during Chapter 1; answering its questions in any way recruits him. Start with Rain or Lasswell for Thunder and Water coverage, then develop Cloud's critical-hit tools and stagger support.
Reach the Sanctum of Cloud
- Explore the southwestern part of the Kingdom of Grandshelt during Chapter 1. Use the nearby Cavern of Swords route as your landmark when searching for the Sanctum of Cloud.
- Enter the Sanctum of Cloud and answer its questions however you prefer. Your choice of answers does not prevent you from unlocking Cloud.
- Equip Cloud on Rain or Lasswell if your immediate goal is physical attacking with Thunder or Water coverage. Choose the character whose current attacks leave the more useful gap for Cloud to fill.
Cloud's skills and combat tools
Cloud is a Breaker whose kit combines elemental coverage with physical critical-hit tools. Thunder Surge and Water Surge are the straightforward starting points against matching weaknesses. Awakening expands his choices with stronger elemental Surges and additional abilities.
| Ability or tool | Effect or practical use | How to access it |
|---|---|---|
| Thunder Surge | Thunder coverage for exploiting a matching weakness and building stagger. | Equip Cloud to use his Surge options. |
| Water Surge | Water coverage for exploiting a matching weakness and building stagger. | Equip Cloud to use his Surge options. |
| Libra | Reveals enemy weaknesses and status vulnerabilities. | Available through Cloud's Vision. |
| Stronger elemental Surges | Stronger options within Cloud's elemental kit. | Progress Cloud's awakening. |
| Braver | An additional awakening ability. | Unlock through Cloud's awakening. |
| Haste | Increases speed. | Unlock through Cloud's awakening. |
| Cross-Slash | An additional awakening ability. | Unlock through Cloud's awakening. |
| Critical Stagger | Increases stagger power through critical-hit synergy. | Develop Cloud's critical-focused abilities. |
| Critical Boost | Increases damage through critical-hit synergy. | Develop Cloud's critical-focused abilities. |
| Lightning nullification | Nullifies lightning damage. | Use Cloud's elemental protection. |
Awaken Cloud and develop mastery separately
Magicite Shards and tablet shards are different items, so check which material you are holding before planning an awakening. Mastery rank and awakening stars also progress separately. Raising mastery does not automatically unlock the abilities tied to awakening stars.
Cloud's mastery milestones
| Reward | Effect or value | How to earn it |
|---|---|---|
| Critical-hit MP recovery | Restores 3% of maximum MP when you land a critical hit. | Cloud's first mastery rank. |
| Speed increase | Speed +5. | Reach MR2 with Cloud on that character. |
| AP increase | AP +8. | Reach MR4 with Cloud on that character. |
| Stamina increase | Stamina +10. | Reach MR6 with Cloud on that character. |
| Strength increase | Strength +15. | Reach MR8 with Cloud on that character. |
| Further AP and critical-focused options | Additional AP and critical-focused mastery rewards. | Reach MR9 with Cloud on that character. |
Prioritize the recovery bonus on a character who regularly lands critical hits, then decide whether your next goal is a stat milestone or more critical support. At MR9, a Vision's spirit bundles its mastery abilities into a single slot, but awakening spells remain separate. Compare the bundle's AP cost with the individual bonuses you actually want before equipping it.
Choose the partner who can use Cloud's strengths
Rain and Lasswell are practical early candidates when they need Thunder or Water coverage, stagger pressure or critical-hit support. Start with whichever character needs those options most. Reconsider the assignment when a different encounter makes another element or role more useful.
Lid is a strong Cloud partner because both benefit from critical hits and staggering enemies. Her Overclock and Overclock Zero boost damage and stagger power by 150% and 300% respectively for the next three Mechabo skills, followed by a two-turn cooldown. Cloud's spellblade attacks provide useful coverage while Mechabo is cooling down.
Jake offers a more direct critical-hit pairing. His Hide and Gamble Shot skills provide guaranteed critical hits, which work with Cloud's Critical Stagger and Critical Boost for increased stagger power and damage. Favor this pairing when you want those critical bonuses to contribute consistently.
Turn Cloud's coverage into a stagger opening
- Use Thunder Surge or Water Surge against the matching elemental weakness to create a stagger opening. Once the target is staggered, capitalize with stronger attacks.
In the demo, characters cap at level 15 and Vision mastery caps at rank five. Cloud's later mastery milestones therefore belong to full-game progression. Check your current rank before repeating battles for a reward beyond the demo's limit.
