Unlock Squall and Put His Vision to Work
Reach the Sanctum of Squall in the northeastern Olderion Federation during Chapter 3, interact with its crystal, and complete the narrative questions to unlock his Vision. Equip him on Lasswell for a practical starting assignment, use Improvement and Trigger to strengthen standard attacks and battle skills, and work toward Double Action for consecutive attack skills.
Reach the Sanctum of Squall
- Continue into Chapter 3 and explore the Olderion Federation. Head toward the northeastern part of the continent to find the Sanctum of Squall.
- Enter the Sanctum of Squall and interact with its crystal to begin the narrative questions.
- Complete the questions to receive Squall's Vision. There is no special answer sequence required, so choose your responses without trying to reproduce a particular combination.
Squall is a full-game unlock rather than a demo objective. The demo covers the opening through the first chapter, while his sanctum becomes accessible during Chapter 3 exploration. Continue your adventure into the full game before pursuing this route.
Squall's Mastery Bonuses and Unlocks
| Bonus or Reward | Effect | How to Get or Equip It |
|---|---|---|
| Improvement | Increases stagger power and damage as standard attacks and battle skills are performed during battle, up to 50%. | Unlocked at MR1 with Squall. |
| Gut Rip | For 5 turns, attacks either miss or land as critical hits. Guaranteed-hit Barrage is a useful partner for this effect. | Unlocked at MR3; no additional AP cost while Squall is equipped. |
| Trigger | Increases damage and stagger power by 30% for standard attacks and battle skills. | Unlocked at MR5. Costs 20 AP when carried into another Vision setup. |
| Restore MP on Attack | Restores 2% of maximum MP whenever a standard attack deals damage. | Learn this mastery bonus from Squall; activate its recovery through damaging standard attacks. |
| Double Action | Allows 2 consecutive attack skills in a turn. It does not work with black or white magic. | Unlocked at MR9; no additional AP cost while Squall is equipped. |
| Permanent AP increases | Adds 8 AP at each milestone, giving that character 16 AP in total from these rewards. | Earn the rewards at MR4 and MR9 on each character individually. |
| Vision spirit | Bundles the Vision's mastery abilities into a single ability slot; it does not grant awakening spells. | Unlocked at MR9. Consider the bundle when you want several mastery abilities together. |
Squall is a Commando Vision whose attacks include Divide and Fated Circle, with Fire and Water coverage across his kit. Awakening expands his offensive options separately from mastery, so increasing mastery does not automatically unlock every awakening ability. An awakening star also provides a physical-defense debuff that makes subsequent physical hits more effective when it lands.
Start With a Practical Lasswell Setup
Mastery progress belongs to each character, so Rain's progress with a Vision does not unlock the same rewards for Lasswell. Learned abilities from your equipped Vision are available without an additional AP cost, while borrowed mastery abilities use your AP budget. Keeping Squall equipped leaves that budget available for attacks and support bonuses learned elsewhere.
Choose Battles That Suit Squall

Blade Blitz makes this setup useful against groups because it attacks all enemies without spending MP. Staggering every enemy creates a sweeping stagger, which grants party bonus actions and leads into a Resonance attack. During that opening, concentrate on damage or recovery rather than spending more resources on stagger you no longer need.Playing this video connects to YouTube.
Enemies vulnerable to Fire or Water also give Squall's elemental coverage a clear purpose on an attacker. His offensive skills fit stagger windows, when the party can capitalize on an opening. If surviving the encounter is the problem, consider a Sentinel or healing Vision assignment to provide the defense your party needs.
Expand Into Double Action and Barrage

Once Lasswell has learned Arms Akimbo from Firion and Barrage from Noctis, open a longer fight with Arms Akimbo. Use its first action for Gut Rip, then choose Double Action and Barrage twice with the remaining action. Gut Rip is a buff, so it cannot be selected inside Double Action.Playing this video connects to YouTube.

Against a single boss, Barrage directs its hits into that target, while its targeting is random against groups. Its guaranteed hit rate is what makes the Gut Rip pairing useful; replacing it with another attack can reintroduce misses. For a shorter fight, Double Action with Barrage twice can be enough without spending an action setting up Gut Rip.Playing this video connects to YouTube.
